Football

Filed under: The Daily Grind — Cathy @ 10:27 pm

Well, the Stony Point Tigers won another play-off game. What does that mean? 6 more weeks of winter! No, wait…at least another week of football. I’m a little torn ’cause I’m ready for a break from high school football. BUT, now that we’re this far (next week’s game is the State Quarter Finals, I think), let’s just finish off the State and go all the way, huh? Go Tigers.

On to college football and the BCS. The new polls and calculations have been posted and living in Austin, all I’m hearing is “blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah; Go Mizzu Tigers!!”. Okay, I can understand that with UT having beaten OU 45-35, OU shouldn’t be ahead of UT in the standings. But they let coaches vote without any weight to their votes as part of this stupid algorithm. I’m sorry, if you’re going to let a bad coach with a grudge (*ahem* A&M, who said before Thanksgiving that he was giving his vote to OU) vote in the poll, it shouldn’t have the same merit as a good coach with no political or historical grudges. Besides, who in the hell decided math and football should be combined anyways???

Professional football - why does some football player think he needs a gun? Or better yet - why is anyone going to a club where you might need a gun? Dumb.

Okay, there are my thoughts on a sport I really don’t care for. Hope you had a fun weekend, too! LOL

So sad

This story is disturbing - partially because of the content, partially because it gives an ominous look to our future. I’m really quite affected by it. :(

Random

random picture Today’s kind of a random day. I got done with a lot of the stuff I needed to do this week so now, I’m taking advantage of a little bit of closed door time and cleaning up in my office. While I stopped to have lunch, I read quite a bit of stuff on “The Internet” and I feel fully educated now (kinda). So, here are the random things going on in the world:

  • Congrats to Pete Wentz & Ashlee Simpson on the birth of their boy. I can’t seem to find the picture of them I took last year right now but if I do, I’ll post it.
  • Deep sorrows to the family of long time (former) Texas Attorney General Jim Maddox who passed away last night.
  • If Texas Tech wins this weekend and loses against Missouri next week, UT will go to the BCS Championships, I think. The BCS algorhythms are still impossible for anyone to figure out.
  • Yes, there was a scary man working at Stony Point but he no longer is…but the cops are still looking for him. I don’t care if you’re only a few years older than her, sleeping with a student is not cool.
  • I can’t wait to get home to update my iPhone with iPhone 2.2.
  • I Can Has Cheezburger, etc. sites have very funny pictures/captions.
  • Keith just sent me a website with a recipe for Turbaconducken. If you’d like to add something extra special to your turkey, stuffed with a chicken, stuffed with a duck, look here for more info. I guess nothing on the web surprises me anymore!
  • Yes, there was a shooting close to Stony Point this morning but we’re all safe and okay. I have heard that the shooter was also the shootee and is no longer a threat to anyone, including themself. **UPDATE: It may not be a suicide after all and someone else dangerous may be running amuck. SCARY!!**
  • Another night of play offs tonight. RRISD Athletics Complex (The Palace on Parmer) at 7:30 pm against the Woodlands HS. If we win this game, we’re playing next Saturday in Waco. I’m excited ’cause a great season like this is long time comin’ for Tiger Football but I gotta say that I’m tired and ready for a break from this.
  • I’m liking this cold weather. Time for a bonfire and some smores!!!
  • Okay, that’s all the random for this week. Take care, have a great weekend and if you don’t check back until after Thanskgiving, have a wonderful one!

    Love you, mean it!

    Rotten Apples

Filed under: Rant & Rave, Techie Becky — Cathy @ 8:21 pm

I understand the need for corporate secrecy on some thing but Apple has reached ridiculous. I need a new set of headphones for my iPhone. The rubber molding around each ear bud has pulled/melted/torn off and has left a very uncomfortable edge that has scratched up my ear. I really don’t like driving around while talking on the phone without my headset, either. And from what I’m understanding, some government agency is pushing for the no cell phone use (talking, texting, etc) while driving without a headset rule/law again.

I’ve been very patient about waiting for the new headphones for the iPhone/iPod that was announced either in August or early September (first week of September, if I’m not mistaken). If I remember correctly, Steve Jobs had the thing in his hand and was showing how it works to everyone so it exists. And it’s not like they’re waiting for another company to make software compatible with it before they can release it. So WHAT’S THE HOLD UP??? And why in the world can’t they just tell me how long I have to wait??? I called Apple today and their answer was “we don’t know until you know”. Really?

Actually, I’m sure that’s the case. But why such snobbery over a set of headphones? Maybe Steve Jobs was lying about the existance of the new headphones and what he was showing off was a mock up of the real thing. Maybe they haven’t really figured out how to make the volume control on the mic/answer switch work yet. Maybe they’ll never actually come out with them. Who knows. All I know is I’m tired of my ears getting scratched up by the old headphones but I don’t want to get a replacement pair, only for the new ones to come out the next week (Murphy’s Law, right). I’m all for being an “Apple person” but this amount of patience is dumb. I wish there was a better/cheaper solution. *sigh*

Their only saving grace with me right now is that they managed to get my iPod Mini working again. It did something strange this summer and refused to sync. But now it works so that’s money I don’t have to spend to replace it for my band recordings.

    Saw something funny

Filed under: Funnies — Cathy @ 6:42 pm

My Google homepage is set up to show headlines from the Austin Statesman. Today, I logged in and found one to say,

San Marcos mayor’s race finally over; man dies after police standoff.

I know those mayoral races can get nasty but boy howdy, that one must’ve been rough!!
