There’s a Place

Filed under: The Daily Grind — Cathy @ 2:11 am

I just finished watching the season finale of Lost and OMG, it was a good great episode! Thanks to DMJ and Krez for convincing me to start watching. If you haven’t watched any of it yet, take the time and catch up. Seasons 1-3 are on DVD and Season 4 should be available December 9th.

Every Little Thing

This quote was in my iGoogle today.

Age is not a particularly interesting subject. Anyone can get old. All you have to do is live long enough.
~Groucho Marx

This song came on my Launchcast Radio. I love Norah Jones!

Turn Me On
~Norah Jones

Like a flower waiting to bloom
Like a lightbulb in a dark room
I’m just sitting here waiting for you
To come home and turn me on

Like the desert waiting for the rain
Like a school kid waiting for the spring
I’m just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on

My poor heart, it’s been so dark since you been gone
After all, you’re the one who turns me off
You’re the only one who can turn me back on

My hi-fi’s waiting for a new tune
The glass is waiting for some fresh ice cubes
I’m just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on
Turn me on

Ticket to Ride

Filed under: Out & About — Cathy @ 11:41 pm

I was thinking about trying to do some traveling this summer but I’m thinking against it now. It seems like it’s going to cost way too much to fly anywhere, especially if there’s any car rental associated with where ever it might be I travel to.

Last summer, I did some reorganization of my finances and I’m doing much better on saving money but I can’t just go spend it as soon as I have a little bit saved up. Not the most responsible thing to do with money. I have to save up so I’m not going into grad school flat broke.

Anyways, back to the point - I’m not doing any long distance traveling this summer. I am thinking about going to Six Flags or the beach or something, though. I think I can manage that. I am, however, considering purchasing a second vehicle that could save me some money - a motorcycle or scooter. I’m actually leaning towards a scooter with some power. I still have to do some research on what’s a good deal but I’m looking at the Suzuki Burgman 400 or 650. To your right, you see the 2008 Burgman 650. Yes, I understand I just said I’m looking at saving money and yet I contradict myself by talking about a new major purchase. But I’m thinking that I can save quite a bit of money in gas by purchasing something that has good gas mileage and a small tank for my daily driving. I’ve also considered a Vespa or something electric like it to save on gas completely. I also don’t know what license (if any) I need for a scooter. Again, more research is necessary. Any input is always welcome.

So, that’s it for now. I’ll keep driving the Mario Kart cycles and scooters until I can get one of my own. For all I know, this is just a whim and I won’t follow through with it. I do love my Honda!

I’ll Be On My Way

Filed under: A Better Me, The Band Director — Cathy @ 3:56 pm

I got a text today by a friend who knows I’m interested in grad school in my near future and it asked how much longer I was going to keep teaching because a professor I know just got a gig at a school as department chair of music at a small state university in the Midwest (is that vague enough?? LOL). This professor is a wonderful teacher (not instrumental) and a great man but not the reason I’m going to grad school. So, I text back how long I’m planning on teaching and that I’m not looking at this school and the text back is, “I’ wouldn’t look there, either”. So, what was the point?

This grad school thing is a very delicate subject for me. I think I got an okay education for my undergrad but more importantly, I had a great life experience. I learned how to make connections. I learned to not be afraid of what is out in the world and because of this, I’ve figured out that what I know is not enough - I want more! Going to grad school is about me and me only. Who I go to school with only depends on who is there and who shows up while I’m where I end up. I’m planning on focusing on my studies and becoming a better conductor and musician. It’s not about becoming a better administrator or making friends…not that I’ll turn away opportunities for new friendships or becoming a more efficient business person. I’m not toying or kidding around with the opportunities ahead of me here. This is for real.

Helter Skelter

Alrighty, I’m back up and running again. And, with WordPress 2.5.1, too. Oh good gravy, getting this going again was certainly a royal pain! I have no idea how it got fixed but getting the blog updated after the server upgrade was more work than any hobby should take. Especially because I couldn’t get any straight answers from anyone, especially from the folks at iPower, my web host provider. Out sourcing tech support is a terrible waste of time and not worth the money saved, in my humble opinion.

Regardless of all the drama, I’m off and blogging again. Stay tuned for new blogs and pics.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
Love you, mean it.
